About 5timesMom

Hello, if I had found this site a month ago I would be asking for financial help too. But that was a month ago, now I need a different kind of help.

Our Story:

I am a 28 year old mother of five children (ages 3-9), my husband is 30, we moved to Portland Oregon from Florida in March. We have faced a number of hardships over the last few months, leading to the loss of our RV, resulting in our family of seven (eight in January) living in a tent behind a "friends" house. My husband has finally started working, we have foodstamps, and the state of Oregon is willing to pay move-in costs and first months rent for us to find housing.

There in lies the trouble now, we have this resource that we are having trouble using. We don't have a phone and no transportation beyond Trimet (public trans), we are looking for an affordable 3+ bedroom house/apartment anywhere from St John's-122nd and as far south as Stark, preferably close to bus/max lines that allows pets.

Please if you have any suggestions contact me. We really need to find something by the first of Aug or the state may retract thier offer. It would also be a nice birthday gift for my son who's birthday is the first week of Aug.

Anyone who knows someone who is renting a place out in the area?

My suggestions:

Check out craigslist for rentals!  They are also great for free stuff, furniture, jobs, and all sorts of other stuff.  Also check out freecycle on yahoo groups for furnishings, clothes, etc.  Sometimes the state also has housing leads so you may want to check in with them and let them know of your dilemna in finding a place.

Skype offers really great deals on low cost phone service but you need high speed internet to make it work.  You should be able to get a low cost lifeline cellular phone through the phone company or an approved provided.  Regular phone service is an essential when it comes to finding a place or a job.

Best of luck!
